Winter Solstice in Brisbane
|
![]() |
| On the shortest day of the year in the southern hemisphere (known as the winter solstice) a group gathered in Brisbane and sat around a bonfire on what was a clear night with plenty of stars and in particular the planet Venus was shining so brightly, and we simply shared in each other company. We talked, drummed and were offered fresh organic pumpkin soup and vegetable curry rice. The night stated well before the bonfire was lit when photos taken started to reveal the orb phenomena. Our society is so set on fast forward that we forget to take time out for ourselves and our love ones. When we do as this night did, we get the simple pleasures that rewards us of a far away time when shepherds would tend to their flocks and have the time to observe the movement of stars and understand the patterns of weather. Tonight was one of those nights, nothing pretentious, you didn't have to dress up to impress, you just had to be the real you. Anyway who has thrown in a fishing line and listened to the babbling brook or the surging sea would understand that at these times of your everyday existence you give yourself permission to reflect and take the journey within ... Apollo said it best with his phrase at the Temple of Delphi "Man Know Thy Self" What we all took away on the night was Earth was a school and our classroom was Australia offering a variety of subjects and tonight was a recess where we honour ourselves and our fellow travelers in life. So remember to love one another, that's all there is! | |||
