Canterbury Cathedral

The Church of England (Anglican) spiritual home is Canterbury Cathedral in the county of Kent. (South East corner of England).

Most people would know that King Henry V111 sought leave from the Pope so he could remarry when it wasn't forthcoming he struck out on his own and took his subjects with him.

It wasn't as if King Henry V111 was doing anything new, even his very own subjects  were use to the vagaries of commerce.
They would shop where they could get the best deal, so to them their King had gone ahead and laid out a new spiritual banquet for everyday consumption.

I found it amusing to walk through the town of Canterbury and see glimpses of the Cathedrals spires through the retail shopping prescient of these narrow streets filled with locals, pilgrims and tourists.

The decision to go it alone by King Henry v111 and make their own decisions was equivalent to reporting to a head office and when given the opportunity to becoming a decision making one, their is a sense of self empowerment and belief in one's self worth.

So whether you are a populous, dictatorally or laissez faire leader you should come to realise that in order to lead you need to serve.  I think it safe to say that King Henry V111 had his own vested interests in coming to grips with the female psyche which gave birth to this new religion. He certainly didn't find himself on a maintenance program like the men of today.
The Church of England membership grew in numbers as England took to the high seas and explored vast areas of this planet eventually spreading the English language, sport, war, business, Westminster principals of government and judicial law. The birth of science and discovery in this free society led mankind out of the dark ages.
I have to say if you were a thinking person you would have to stop and ask what outcome could have been achieved if the British race (Anglo; Saxon; Normon; Viking)  hadn't left the Spanish and the Portuguese to colonise and bring catholism to the South Americans.
So the candle, a simple candle representing light in a world where spiritual darkness had entrapped western man is the hallmark of your visit to Canterbury Cathedral.

King Henry's V111 decision to remove his people from the yoke of Catholism and the change that took place in this Island Nation forged an empire where the sun never set that was until World War 2 came along and Britain had to offer collateral to the bankers and USA in order to fund the war, a debt that changed the world.

You probably know all that, so lets move on and enjoy a day at Canterbury Cathedral.
