Sacred Tours for 2007

Austria

We took this trip in July 2007.... Yes! This land has music but it's the mountains that we came to seek, they rise up and not a word is spoken, yet their combined strength is awesome when they act as one.

When was the last time you spoke to a mountain, let alone speak to the Alps.

To talk to the mountains we brought first class tickets and embarked on our 6 hour high speed train that goes from  Zurich to Salzburg via Innsbruck, this journey weaves around the  foreshore of  Lake Zurich (Zürichsee), across the valley floors, through tunnels, escarpments and high placed viaducts, we bristle pass the alpine trees as they bend in our wake and say good bye.

It's summer and the hills are alive with activity, farmers slashing their fields for next winters feed, road construction, on the lake it's yacht racing, water skiing, canoeing, and locals swimming,  hikers and bike riders are above and below us.

We whiz them by, safe inside our snake as it sucks up to, hugs and nestles into each mountain's out stretched hands, the

scenery changes in seconds, revealing a variety of life in all its glory.

It's truly is spell binding what a mountain can give in its silent space of time, the camera goes through two rechargeable batteries as I click off 640 off photos (in first class there is power by your seat to recharge mobiles, laptops and camera batteries) you do not want to have a sleep in case you miss something, this is as it should be .... like a child, be a child, and you get to witness something new.

Base camp was Salzburg (Salt Fortress) it's got so much to offer, from the Sound of Music, and Von Trapp family, music maestro Wolfgang Armadas' Mozart, go in inside the Salt Mine mountain and witness for yourself whilst on a boat in complete darkness the sounds of music on your psyche as you travel across the Salt Mines underground lake.

It's when the mountains reach down and dip their roots into the lakes and their awesome silent power is reflected in the stillness which is the sacredness of this place, they call Bavaria. This is definitely the place to contemplate where and what you want to do with your life.
Eagles Nest is a completely different experience "Newtons Third Law of Motion"  for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction this journey takes you into an emotion built by the Nazi party as a place of peace, you begin by walking into the mountain, the tunnel entrance has two sets of twin steel doors probably to remind you of closure, perhaps  a different form of protection some say, the walk in the tunnel is cool, it's better to walk briskly to keep warm after 130 metres you take the brass walled and ceiling elevator to the top, where the view is outstanding and understandable why it was considered to be a place of peace. You have to experience this for so many reasons.
"I'll be back" is a quote from one of Austria's famous son's (Arnie from Terminator) and it's so true, here is a taste of what you can expect.
