Bill's Healing Festival 07
This year it was held 13th July to 15th July

For the first time in its twelfth year history we got rain, interestingly enough crowds were up on Friday and Saturday but when police took to the countries air waves making general announcements they were closing festivals throughout the UK due to weather conditions, Bill's festival remained opened.

The county of Somerset is farm country pure and simple, the big town is Weston Super Mare, the nearest city is Bristol to the north. Cheddar Cheese, Cheddar Gorge, Cheddar Caves, Apple cider and fresh strawberries are icons but what is iconic is Glastonbury, Glastonbury Tor, Chalice Wells, (the White and Red waters) The Levels and the legends of King Arthur, Queen Guinevere, Knights of the Round Table, Merlin, Joseph of Arimathea..... Wells Cathedral is a must see, fresh spring water runs down the street.

At Bill's you can pitch a tent, bring a camper or caravan, showers are brought into the campers field on carriages, water is connected to instant gas exchange heater for both hot and cold water, luxury I have to say, Porta loo's are in the campers field and at both ends of the festival field.

You might get to see a badger, wild roe deer, rabbits and hares, sheep, cattle plus a view of the northern sky around the nightly camp fires, its a new world and one where your sense of direction is completely out of whack particularly those of us who are calibrated to the magnetic polarity of the south pole. I have to say it takes some time to adjust to your internal compass.

Glastonbury

Friday night is a concert with a variety of performers and they all have got to know each other so it works well, it's a night to get out of your chair and make some noise.

Saturday night its the boys vs the girls as the teams introduce family members or events that have past between those of the living and those who have past on..... it's nice to watch. It reminds me of Louie Armstrong and his song "What a wonderful world" particularly those lyrics "I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?" They're really saying "I love you"

During all three days their are free workshops all workshops are in self standing marquees set apart from the festival, so that you can get up dance, sing, lay on the ground or do what ever is the focus of that activity. Healers from other cultures are invited and have participated on the main stage or had a stall or run a workshop.

Food is prepared and cooked on site by Linda Loaf , all organic food and Steve and his army do the burgers and salad rolls, the Mr Whippy man turns up as does Tisch who does the face painting for children and me alike.

I love the smell of the English country, the double summer time (sun goes down around 10pm and you get that twilight) magic don't you think, the clear bright sky and people talking around the camp fires.

The game plan for 2008 is to take a bunch of people, set up a camp site, get involved and have some fun.

"The Levels"  once part of the inland sea where vessels sailed up to Glastonbury, once drained now used for livestock farming.
