Australian Outback
Steve drove our special 4WD camping bus, it was loaded with supplies to cater for the 20 souls from Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Canada, Netherlands, and us Aussies who had decided to undertake this spiritual pilgrimage. Our 3 day camping safari in the Australian Outback set off from Alice Springs, our destination would let us see, touch, smell and hear the heart beat of Ulura (Ayers Rock), Kata Tjuta (Olga's) and feel the desert waters as we swam in the Garden of Eden (Kings Canyon).
Again an extremely rare scene: "Uluru Under Mist"
We had a choice of three programs, we could stay in hotel / back packing facilities, permanent camp sites or pitch our tents, we chose the permanent camp sites, the tents were erected with wooden floor, camp beds and sleeping bags, we were all given a cocoon like sheet that slipped inside the sleeping bag for hygiene purposes and we had a fully enclosed camp kitchen on a concrete floor with 240 power so we could all charge our camera batteries and lap tops, the walls were either green or fawn coloured sunshade cloth to allow the breeze to flow through and to stop the bugs from flying in.
Choosing this method of travel gave us more time to enjoy the sounds of the Outback.
Whether we were on the bus or at night around the camp kitchen, Steve provided us with his insights on the caterpillar trail, the eggs of creation that make up Kata Tjuta, the ceremonial areas for men's and women's business, and so it come to pass that we all shared our experiences, whether we saw a lizards, dingo, python, kangaroo, birds or more importantly how the rocks, waters and the trees would reveal faces and scenes much like looking at the clouds as they pass you by.
At night when you went to sleep and turned within, your dreams revealed so much more of what this country has to offer. The veil between the physical and the ethereal for those who are aware of such matters is stunningly closer than what one achieves in the cathedrals of Europe. Out here in the Outback the resonance is stimulating to your senses... this is a place that your soul needs to encounter if only once in it's earthly encounter.
I would take a group again.
